The Gravette Lady Lions have been hard at work on the court this summer. They began summer workouts the last week of May and will continue through the last week of July.
Head Coach Will Pittman has the schedule set up to focus on various aspects of the game.
“We typically practice three days a week,” said Pittman. “We spend the majority of our time working fundamentals. We have done a lot of shooting and ball handling in junior high and senior high. Then we usually do a lot of 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 competitive pick up games. These girls really hook up and get after each other when we do this.”
Pittman has seen a lot of improvement from his teams and has been happy with the results thus far.
“I have been very pleased with our effort and attendance this summer for workouts,” said Pittman. “We know summer is a very busy time with vacations, softball, etc., but our senior high girls have made an outstanding commitment all summer long. I’ve been very impressed by the work ethic this group has had in the weight room. Coach (Kayla) Shortt has done an outstanding job putting together functional upper and lower body workouts that are already showing great results.”
Pittman said the junior high team competed in June at the Huntsville team camp and had a very good showing. Pittman point out Rachel Deihl, Brynn Romine, and Delacy Wishon as having outstanding performances during the camp.
The senior high team competed in the Northwest Arkansas Shootout.
“This allowed us to see many areas in which we needed improvement, most notably consistency,” said Pittman. “Since then we have taken part in a Pea Ridge one day camp where we saw vast improvement. We will go back to Pea Ridge this Monday and will round out the summer with a trip to Little Rock to participate in the UALR Team Camp.”
Go Lady Lions!
